(x) Military General Service 1793-1814, 3 clasps, Albuhera, Vittoria, Pyrenees (Michl Short, 28th Foot), good very fine

Michael Short is confirmed on the Roll with entitlement to these three clasps. At the Battle of Albuhera the 28th (North Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot were part of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Abercrombie's 3rd Brigade, and as such were much in the thick of the fighting in the defence of the ridge which was crucial to the Allied position. Lucky to suffer nowhere near as many casualties as the 2nd Brigade (on their immediate right), towards the end of the action the 28th participated in a bayonet charge which resulted in the final defeat of the French in what was one of the bloodiest battles of the Peninsular War.
