The Victory Medal awarded to Sergeant C. Hammond, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment), who won a Military Medal during 1917 and was killed in action on 5 April 1918 at the Battle of Ancre during Operation Michael

[M.M] London Gazette 28 September 1917. Research accompanying the Lot by Howard Williamson suggests this as an award for the Battle of Pilckem Ridge, 31 July 1917.

Charles Hammond was born at Kensington, London and lived at Chiswick by the outbreak of the Great War. He served in France with the 8th Battalion, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment) from 31 August 1915 and subsequently transferred to the 6th Battalion. Having won his M.M., Hammond was killed in action on 5 April 1918 and is commemorated upon the Pozieres Memorial; sold together with copied research.
