British War Medal 1914-20 (11085 Pte. G. Jones. S. Wales Bord.), very fine

Garfield Jones was born Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire. Enlisting in Cefn Hengoed, Glamorganshire with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers before transferring to 2nd Battalion. He entered the war on 20 September 1914, at this time the regiment was operating in China against the German concession of Tsingtao where they saw action in October. Returning from the east they joined the Cape Hellas landings at Gallipoli, with detachments assaulting ‘S’ and ‘Y’ beaches. Jones was wounded in July 1915, dying of those wounds in Alexandria on 5 July he was buried at Chatby War Memorial Cemetery. Further entitled to a 1914 Star and Victory Medal.
