Frederick Taylor was born in Clapham in 1872 and joined the Royal West Surrey Regiment at Guildford in October 1890. He saw active service in India (Medal & 2 clasps) before South Africa from 20 October 1899-5 August 1902, being discharged in October 1902. He appears to have thence served in Mesopotamia from 12 May 1915 (1914-15 Star Trio) and latterly on the Afghanistan North-West Frontier in 1919.
