1859 (16 May) blue envelope to London "per Columbian via Marseilles" bearing 1859 1d. yellow-green (3), 4d. dull rose-red (2) and 1/- blue tied by "1" in fine barred circle, with faint Melbourne despatch oval, small manuscript "6" and the standard London registered dated oval code "M" (1.8). Notation on the reverse suggestes that the letter contained £50. One of the 1d. stamps overlaps the edge of the envelope and is defective, a small repair in the top left corner. A desirable three-colour franking. The compulsory use of registration stamps creased on 5th January 1858. Rodney Perry Certificate (2006). S.G. 76, 81, 83
