Transit Mail: 1857 (27 Apr.) envelope to Switzerland bearing 1854-55 2/- dull bluish green pair with 1/- rose-pink and blue registration stamp with 1857 4d. dull red (2, one folded over the edge of the envelope) cancelled by "4" barred ovals with a light strike of Sandhurst despatch oval and handstruck "d6", clerk's calculations in the lower corner "T - 4 - 2.V - - 6/R - 1 - ". with large crown/"registered" (probably Liverpool), London transit (24.8), "PD" in circle, Calais transit and French "chargé" in black; the reverse with Melbourne oval, boxed Liverpool Ship, French transit in red and remains of the French wax seals. One side flap has been removed to protect the overlapping stamp. An appealing high-value franking
