Cut Bank Notes: 1801 (26 Apr.) letter from Jacob Whitbread stating, "I have enclosed the halves of eighteen Bank Notes amounting to £600 / please to favour me with a line that I may know that you have receive the same & I will remit the remainder".

Also 1898 (1 Aug.) £5 bank note from the Western Bank, Exeter which has been cut in half and rejoined with paper tape. This note has been cancelled by a large "X". Also a highly unusual printed label marked "Bank Note/Adhesive Label which would have been used to re-join the two halves of banknotes. An interesting group which demonstrates the sending of money through the post. (not illustrated)
