1860 (25 May) blue envelope with enclosure to Lieut. Geoffrey Mairis, "Expeditionary Force China" sent "Via Marseilles" bearing 1855-57 6d. with 2d. Blue tied by Clifton duplex with handstruck "1d" in red alongside; the reverse with London (26.5) and Hong Kong (6.7) c.d.s.; good to fine.


The letter includes, "... We are led to believe that the Chinese government have refused our ultimatum that war is inevitable. A good letter sent from Hong Kong to the conflict zone
