The interesting contents illuminate one of the interactions between the Chinese and the English, "... We are now enabled to announce the landing hereon the evening of the 2st of Capt. C. Elliot, Messrs Morrison & Elmslie. It seems the Queen Steamer went up to Chuenpee on 21st and sent a boat ashore with a flag of truce and a letter for Ke-shan the Commissioner. The fort fired on the boat and then on the steamer, which was struck by a 32lb shot. She returned the fire both with shot and shell and then carried back the letter to to the Admiral. It is said that Capt. Elliot has got the letter delivered to the Chinese officer here in Kuen-min-foo. What will be the consequence of this abrupt display of the Chinese feeling remains to be seen. The Community here have addressed the Admiral drawing his attention to the seizure of Mr Stanton. The Admiral has brought with him the 'Melville', 'Wellesley', Blenheim' and 'Modesse' - the 'Herald' joined him outside. We believe he went up to the Bogue yesterday accompanied by the greater part of the squadron and it is with no small anxiety that we wait for intelligence of his negotiation there. Capt. Elliot left this morning to join the Admiral"
