1840 (17 Jan.) entire letter to John Buckley & Sons in Saddleworth, Yorkshire from a member of Holliday, Wise & Co the 'Heroica' in "Tongkoo Bay, off Canton" and carried privately to England "p Tapley" and rated "8", the flap with the step-type "penzance/ship letter" and London transit (4.6).

Much of the letter deals with the tea trade with news of the dwindling trade and increasing conflict following the evacuation of the merchants from Hong Kong Island to a safer anchorage, " ... the British merchants are now divided between this anchorage and Macao, having since their leaving Canton continues to do a moderate business with Canton through American Agents, sending up goods per foreign flags ... At this moment, however, trans-shipped British goods cannot be sent up without risk of confiscation" A good letter from Tongkoo Bay anchorage
