1840 (17 Jan.) entire letter from Turner & Co at Tongkoo to Messrs John Gladstone & Co., Liverpool carried on the "Tapley", rated "8", with step-type "penzance/ship letter" in black and Liverpool arrival datestamp (4.6); vertical filing crease. The contents being a hand-written "An Official Public Notice. The British subject detained by the Chinese authorities having been released and delivered upon Her Majesty's ship under my Command. Notice is hereby given that the Blockade notified by me on the 8th inst. is rescinded. Given on board, etc. H Smith". An important document signed by the captain of the 'Volage' at Tong Koo

1840年1月17日由銅鼓灣的Turner & Co 寄英國利物浦的Messrs John Gladstone 信函, 由私人輪船"Tapley" 携往. 郵費為"8", 帶黑色梯型"penzance/ ship letter" 戳記, 旁有利物浦6月4日到達日戳. 有摺痕. 內容為手寫“官方公告: 被中國當局扣押的英國人已獲釋並在我的指揮下登上女王陛下的船. 特此通知, 我8日通報的封鎖被撤銷. 在船上提供等... H. Smith". 銅鼓灣“Volage”號指揮官所簽署的重要文件.
