The East Coast Route Mail
1892 (Jan.) envelope from Salisbury to Port Elizabeth carried in the second official despatch by the East Coast route, marked "Via Umtali - Beira", bearing 1892 1d. and 4d. both cancelled by "K" in barred diamond obliterator, showing code "G" c.d.s. of Umtali for 27 January; thence carried by cart to Macequence, Mozambique with 1886 10r. green and 40r. brown applied on reverse and with indistinct cancellations, showing boxed "ship letter" h.s. applied at Durban with Durban c.d.s. (7.3) alongside and, on reverse, Port Elizabeth c.d.s. (11.3); some faults in places though a very rare combination franking. Photo

Note: Mozambique adhesives were required as Rhodesian stamps had no extra-territorial validity.
