The East Coast Route Mail
1892 (27 Jan.) envelope from Umtali to Cape Town carried in the second official despatch by the East Coast route, bearing 1892 2d. and 4d. both cancelled by "C" in barred diamond obliterator in conjunction with code "G" c.d.s. for 27 January; thence carried by cart to Macequence, Mozambique with 1886 10r. green and 40r. brown applied and with indistinct cancellations, showing boxed "ship letter" h.s. applied at Durban, the reverse with Durban (7.3) and Cape Town (14.3) datestamps; a few minor faults in places though a very rare and attractive combination franking. Note: Mozambique adhesives were required as Rhodesian stamps had no extra-territorial validity.
