Charles I (1625-1649), Civil War Issues, Royalist Oxford, Shilling, 1643, 'Declaration' type, smaller squat crowned bust left 'of coarse style', value behind, rev. Declaration in three straight lines, three even plumes above, 1643 below, 5.66g, 4h, m.m. plume (Brooker 930/- same obverse die; North 2440; Spink 2972), irregular flan and a small die flaw to left of forehead, otherwise a pleasingly compact and bold striking, the central devices strikingly so, handsomely toned, almost extremely fine but for peripheries, rare thus

The reverse die does not appear to concord with any example offered on CoinArchives or through the recent Hulett dispersals
