1856 (10 Dec.) envelope from Eccles to Port Natal "p Royal Mail via Cape of Good Hope" and carried by the Ireland on her only sailing under the Lindsay contract, bearing 6d. purple (2, touched in places) twice cancelled by Manchester "498" sideways duplex with Natal Crown datestamp in blue below, despatch and London datestamps on reverse, forwarded to Natal by the private sailing ship Rosebud immediately prior to the signing of the Rennie contract of mails between Natal and Cape Town; minor faults in places though an attractive 1/- packet letter rate franking.
