Great Britain
Lord Salisbury
1885 (22 Nov.) ALS as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs over seven pages to correspondent at the Conservative Committee, Penzance responding to a letter enclosing a clipping - which Salisbury has pasted back into his response - criticising him of building a residence in Dieppe, France so that he could escape to "peace and security", he apparently went only in time for the Franco-German war to begin, at which point he returned "to the country he had so basely deserted". Salisbury makes some efforts to refute this in his letter. Complete with original franked cover. Interesting.
