1760 (25 June) ALS in French on full side on single page, the reverse being a letter from Joseph Thompson, to which the Prince is responding. Thompson writes to "confirm the content" of his previous letter "as I find myself unaware of the content of your letters", asking the Prince to forward a letter to Monsieur Drumlee. Signed "Joseph Thompson". The Prince then writes, explaining that "I put off replying to the first till later as I was waiting for an opportunity to write to you more fully, which will present itself in about a week's time, at the latest, by way of person in whom I have every confidence, and who at the same time will take the remittance for Mr. Drumley of 200 francs, with the reply to the letter which you have sent for him." Signed "J.D." (John Douglas, one of his pseudonyms), with a note giving compliments "to the Widow Dormer ... I believe that you have some gold Ducats, that will be the best way to remit the sum mentioned above.". Paper with a few minor tears along folds, as to be expected. A superb, private letter written entirely in the Prince's distinctive hand and in the same month that his wife, Clementine Walkinshaw wrote to him to say she was leaving him. Sold together with 1746 printing of Ascanius (The Young Adventurer), written by the Prince and translated by Ralph Griffiths.
