British War and Victory Medals (K.29484 H. L. Woolley. Sto. 1 R.N.), good very fine (2)

Harry Leddra Woolley was born at Walworth, London on 12 October 1897 and was an engineer's stoker upon his enlistment on 24 November 1915. He served afloat with Temeraire from 25 February 1916 and was aboard her during the Battle of Jutland later that year. During the action, Temeraire was the fifteenth ship from the head of the battle line after deployment. She fired five salvos from her main guns at the crippled Wiesbaden, claiming two or three hits. At 1917hrs, the ship fired seven salvos at the Derfflinger, but did not make any hits. About ten minutes later, Temeraire engaged several German destroyer flotillas with three salvos from her main armament without result. This was the last time that the ship fired her guns during the battle. She received no damage and fired a total of 72 twelve-inch shells (all high explosive) and 50 shells from her four-inch guns during the battle.

Woolley was demobilized on 31 March 1919; sold with copied service record.
