A Corps banner and car pennant used: '… when Commanding Section of Canal Defences 1916'.
The banner of wool bunting measuring 610 mm x 915 mm and comprising six pieces sewn together to form a white cross on a scarlet field, with scarlet reinforcing patches at upper and lower hoist corners; white canvas hoist sleeve containing a round-cord halyard terminating at the top in a wooden toggle and at the bottom in a loop. The sleeve stamped on the obverse side in black ink: EDWARD RILEY & CO. PROVIDENCE STREET MILLS LEEDS and: 3 x 2 ft.
The car pennant of scarlet cotton measuring 202 mm x 241mm, overlaid on both sides with strips of white cotton to form a cross and incorporating a sleeve for a rod or pole.
Accompanied by a piece of paper bearing, in Dobell's hand, the ink inscription: My Corps banner &c when Commanding Section of Canal Defences 1916.
The banner with some moth damage, only fair condition; the pennant stained and torn.
