John William Wells was born in 1883 and lived at 7 Ripon Street, Lincoln and was a butchers shopman who served with 284 Siege Battery, Royal Artillery from 31 October 1916-18 January 1919 and earned an M.S.M. (London Gazette 17 June 1918, refers) by war's end; sold together with The Soldiers Own Diary for 1918, with almsost daily entries by Wells covering his war, cigarette case, engraved 'RGW', together with a number of items of original paperwork, including M.S.M. enclosure, Certificate of Employment and Discharge Certificate.
