An M.S.M. group of three awarded to Quarter-Master Sergeant F. Leslie, Rifle Brigade, late Royal Irish Rifles and North Staffordshire Regiment - who served against the Kakar Pathans in southern Afghanistan in late 1884, a campaign for which no Medal or clasp was issued

Frank Leslie was born at Aston, Birmingham and enlisted in the North Staffordshire Regiment at West Bromwich on 23 January 1882. Quickly raised to Sergeant by January 1883, he was tried by Court Martial and reduced to Private on 9 April 1883. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he served in India and thence south Afghanistan as part of the Zhob Field Force under Brigadier-General Sir O. S. Tanner, from 21 September-2 December 1884.
Returned to India, he transferred to the Rifle Brigade on 30 September 1886 and served in Upper Burma from 7 December 1886-4 March 1889. During this period he was Acting Corporal on 14 April 1888 and passed as a Mounted Infantryman.
Returned to India, Leslie went onto serve in Hong Kong from 30 November 1894, shortly after the plague which had ravaged that place. Transferred to the 2nd Battalion in January 1896, he transferred to the 6th Battalion in November 1896 and was awarded his L.S. & G.C. in January 1901. Leslie was discharged on 31 July 1908, intending to live at Mullingar, County Meath; sold together with copied service record and research.
