Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (India & Colonies), V.R. (Voltr: H. Garratt. E. Bl. State Ry: Volr: Rifles.), edge bruise, good very fine

Henry Garratt was born in 1849 and by 1885 was a Guard on the Eastern Bengal State Railway (Thacker's Indian Directory, refers). He was awarded the Medal in I.A.O. 471 of 24 May 1903. Having become a widower, he married Laura Leach, who herself had lost her husband, on 26 December 1906 at Lal Basu Baptist Church, Calcutta; sold with copied verification and extracts.
