Volunteer Force Long Service Medal (India & Colonies), E.VII.R. (Staff Armr. Sergt. W. F. Parkinson. 2d. Bn. Bo: B & C. I. Ry. Volrs:), minor official correction to unit, otherwise good very fine

William Frederick Parkinson was born on 25 June 1853, the son of Frederick Parkinson, an Officer in the Preventative Service. He was baptised at Christ Church, Bombay a month later. Working on the railways as a Foreman Turner, he joined the Indian Volunteers and was married in 1882. By 1893 Parkinson was working on the Rajputana-Malwa Railway (part of the Bombay, Baroda & Central India Railways) at the Central Workshop at Ajmere (Thacker's Indian Directory refers). Having been awarded his Medal in I.A.O. 801 of 29 April 1902, Parkinson was an Assistant at the Vulcan Iron Works, Calcutta by 1921. With his first wife having passed away, he married Daisy Penheiro - who was thirty six years his junior - in October 1921 at Calcutta. Parkinson died at St. Joseph's Home, Calcutta and was buried in the Lower Circular Road Cemetery on 22 November 1933; sold with copied verification and extracts.
