Charles Follett was born on 3 December 1908 at Stoke Sub Hamdon, Somerset, the son of Richard Follett and Ellen 'Nellie' Tavener. Recorded as a 3-year-old 'Inmate' on the 1911 Census for England, Follett spent his childhood living at St. Saviour's Home in Taunton, before enlisting for the Grenadier Guards at Taunton on 24 March 1924. Appointed Drummer, he served in Egypt from 14 November 1933-8 April 1936 and with the British Expeditionary Force from 19 September 1939-2 June 1940. Evacuated home, he fought with the 1st Army in the North African Campaign, remaining in Egypt and Cyrenaica until 23 November 1947. Discharged on 23 April 1949, he returned home to Somerset where he married Elsie Mary Dodge at Yeovil on 22 July 1953. He died in December 1968 at Lambeth, London; sold with copied research.
