British War Medal 1914-20 (Sq. Cr. A. Brind. R.N.A.S.), a scarce rank, good very fine

Alfred Brind was born on 11 July 1875 and initially served from 4 December 1914-6 March 1915 as Sub Lieutenant in the R.N.V.R. Anti-Aircraft Corps. Transferred the next day to the R.N.A.S., Brind was appointed Temporary Acting Flight Lieutenant and gained his flying certificate on 2 September 1915. Posted to East Fortune and later, Crystal Palace, Brind received a positive reference from Brigadier-General G. Campbell on 3 August 1917; 'Great assistance in recruiting, energy and tact most noticeable'. Consistently put forward for promotion, he ended the war as Squadron Commander, likely continuing to maintain 'cordial' relations between Depot and units of the R.N.A.S. based at Crystal Palace.
