Pan American Airways began its North Atlantic service in June 1939, from New York via Shediac, Botwood and Foynes to Southampton. After the outbreak of war on 1st September 1939, it changed its terminals to Foynes and Lisbon.
1940 (17 Apr.) envelope from Singapore to California, marked "Pan American Trans Atlantic Air Mail", franked at $1.30 (30c. stamp creased) and showing Censor label at left tied by framed "passed by/21/censor". Scarce, about ten covers recorded at this rate. Photo
