Four: 2nd Lieutenant S. Vaughan, Royal Air Force, late Royal Flying Corps

British War and Victory Medals (2/Lieut. S. Vaughan, R.A.F.); Defence and War Medals 1939-45, good very fine (4)

Stanley Vaughan was born in Peckham, London on 16 November 1899 and was educated at Westminster City School. Enlisting in the Royal Flying Corps in October 1917, he was discharged to a commission as 2nd Lieutenant on the General List in March 1918 and reported to the Kite Balloon Training Establishment (Naval Wing) at Roehampton in the same month. His service record confirms his subsequent qualification as a 'Free Balloon Pilot' but he appears to have served in airships rather than kite balloons. Vaughan was appointed Flying Officer in September 1919 and transferred to the Unemployed List in March 1920; sold with copied research.
