Frank Bernard Allen was born at Buxton Hill, London on 25 April 1891 and was educated at Surrey College and Clarks College.
Enlisting in the 10th (Service) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers in August 1914, he arrived in France in July 1915 and was wounded by a gunshot to his left thigh during unit's advance on Contalmaison on the Somme on 10 July 1916. Having then been transferred to the 6th Battalion in the interim, he was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the London Regiment in April 1917: it was in this capacity that he was wounded for a second time during the German Spring Offensive on 25 March 1918, when a machine-gun bullet struck his respirator retainer.
Allen resigned his commission in July 1920; sold with copied research.
