Three: Private A. Holden, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, who stood before a District Court Marshal accused of desertion in November 1917

1914-15 Star (15556 Pte. A. Holden, R.W. Fus.); British War and Victory Medals (15556 Pte. A. Holden, R.W. Fus.), this last with officially re-impressed naming and the second with slack suspension bar, otherwise generally good very fine (3)

Andrew Holden arrived in France as a Private in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 27 September 1915, a date that confirms he was a soldier of the 10th (Service) Battalion. His MIC confirms that he faced a District Court Marshal for desertion on 25 August 1917, but the relevant lines are struck through with a subsequent notation, 'Not forfeited': he was cleared of the charges and received his campaign medals. The regimental medal roll reveals that he was discharged due to ill-health caused by active service in March 1918 and that he received the Silver War Badge.
