Crowned Circle: 1789 (30 May) entire folio letter from Thomas Townsend to London "p the Hope" bearing, on reverse, a very fine strike of the crown in circle with London double circle (16.7) arrival c.d.s., there is a bold strike of "dover/ship ltr" and "2/0" rate mark. Heavy horizontal filing fold and much arrival notation. The folds of the letter have become very weak and there is some splitting of the paper
