1897 Revenue Surcharges
Covers
German Post Office
1897 (21 Sept.) opened-out envelope to Berlin bearing, on the reverse, Small Figures 2c. on 3c. with Large Figures 2c. on 3c. vertical pair and 4c. on 3c. tied by superb strikes of Hankow pa-kua in black with Shanghai Dollar chop (24.9) and Berlin arrival alongside; the address side with Germany 20pf. tied by Shanghai c.d.s. and a good strike of the Hankow Dollar chop. Fresh and fine.
A highly desirable cover bearing the three-value franking on the reverse paying the 10c. international rate.
This is the only Revenue Surcharge cover cancelled by the Hankow pa-kua. Both the Small 2c. and the 4c. stamps are very scarce used in Hankow
