1881 (5 Dec.) envelope from the United States Consulate in Tientsin to California bearing, on the reverse, 1ca. pale green in a vertical pair [13/19] with right margin from Setting II with 5ca. orange-yellow [13] cancelled by Tientsin type B seal in black, with Tientsin and Shanghai (9.12) Customs c.d.s. alongside. The address side bearing Japan Koban 5s. brown tied by cork crossroads obliterator with "i.j. postal agency/shanghai" c.d.s. (14.12) and Yokohama c.d.s (26.12) with further San Francisco transit (11.1) on the reverse. Some light soiling and small fragment of the flap missing.
