Charles I (1625-49), Tower mint under the king, 'proof' or 'fine work' Halfcrown, 14.91g, type 2c, m.m. harp both sides, carolvs. d.' g.' mag.' bri.' fra.' et. hib.' rex, king, crowned and in armour, on horseback left, sword over right shoulder, horse caparisoned with plume on head and cross on housing, rev. .christo. avspice. regno.:, oval garnished shield dividing c-r (Brooker 311 same dies - 'a piece of fine work'; N.2207; S.2771), a beautifully struck example on a neat round flan, deeply toned with residual lustre in devices, good very fine for this, extremely rare, the only proof Halfcrown in the Tower series
