Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, 1.22g, Last small cross type, Ipswich, Lifinc, diademed bust left, rev. +lyfinc mon gipespi, o over n in on, cross pattée within inner circle (SCBI 50 St Petersburg, No 1207 - same dies; N.777; S.1154), metal testing and a cross heavily scored onto the reverse, small striking crack on inner circle in front of bust, otherwise minor weakness and with much detail preserved, this flan a good size, toned and good very fine

The score marks on reverse may be an alternative method of metal testing or could represent a Christian cross
