Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, 1.26g, Helmet type, London, Eadwig, helmeted, radiate and armoured bust left, rev. +edpi m·o lvndene, voided long cross over quadrilateral with a trefoil of pellets to cusps, extra pellets in two quarters (N.775 var.; S.1152 var.), evidence of metal testing on this, a little striking weakness but generally pleasing and the metal quality very high, pleasantly toned, good very fine and a rare variety with extra pellets to reverse
