Aethelred II (978-1016), Penny, 1.38g, Last small cross type, Lincoln, Osgut, diademed bust left, rev. +osgut m-o lincoln, cross pattée within inner circle (N.777; S.1154), evidence of Scandinavian metal testing, slight striking weakness to bust and to remote areas of legend, generally a pleasing strike, perfectly round and centred, gently toned, good very fine

The mint signature on this Saxon penny renders the city name in a form that remains unchanged to this day
