Royal Elthorne or 5th Middlesex Light Infantry Militia
An extremely fine and rare example the silver plated back plate with gilt and silver mounts, comprising a crowned oval strap 'Royal Elthorne' enclosing a silver strung bugle horn with 'V' between the strings, these on a ground of blue enamel, the strap with attendant oak sprays, a scroll at the base 'Middlesex Militia' the words divided by a small shield bearing the county arms, 1853-1855, the blue enamel centre with damage otherwise very fine condition
The regiment was only raised in 1853 so this was the only pattern worn by the Officers.
