A very fine and scarce example the gilt back plate with rounded corners and gilt and silver mounts, comprising a crowned tri-part scroll 'Egmont Op Zee, Waterloo, Fuentes D'Onor' over the Sphinx/Egypt, below this the star of the Order of the Thistle in silver with gilt central motto and thistle spray, below this an interwoven scroll 'Peninsula, Pyrenees, Salamanca, Toulouse, Nive, Nivelle', within the scroll the numerals '79', thistle sprays to the left and right of the central star, c.1830-1840 (Parkyn 497), the green enamel backing slip to the central thistle spray missing otherwise very good condition
