(x) Waterloo 1815 (Bt. Major M. Ryan, 2nd Batt. 30th Reg. Foot.), with original steel clip and contemporary silver ring and bar suspension, rank corrected from ‘Capt.’ and consequently name largely retouched, light contact marks, otherwise very fine or better

Lieutenant-Colonel Matthew Ryan, Commissioned Cornet, 26th Light Dragoons, April 1795; promoted Lieutenant, April 1796; transferred to the 18th Light Dragoons, 1800; exchanged into the 5th West India Regiment, with the rank of Captain, May 1801; transferred to the 30th Foot, May 1814; promoted Brevet Major, 4.6.1815; Major, 1817; Lieutenant-Colonel, July 1830.

Lieutenant-Colonel Ryan served in the West Indies under Sir Ralph Abercrombie, in Portugal under General Cuyler, and during the Waterloo Campaign, 16-18.6.1815.
