Hong Kong Postal History Incoming Mail 1864 (28 Apr.) entire letter to Hong Kong "per. ´Oripa´" bearing India 1856-64 4a. black tied by "1" in barred diamond and small "forwarded by/ewart latham & co/bombay" oval in blue with Bombay India Paid c.d.s. alongside plus handstruck "d_/4" in circle in red, Hong Kong arrival (29.5) in blue on reverse; horizontal folding crease and some ageing of the paper, good appearance. Detailed contents refer to the opium trade including, "Opium prices have receded about Rs25 per chest, the chief reason being probably the increased stringency of our money market..." and goes on to say that they expected to have 5000 to 6000 chests soon to be available plus some details of cotton and candles.
