Hong Kong Postal History Incoming Mail 1860 (28 Feb.) entire letter from Bombay to Augustine Heard and sent "Per Cadiz", bearing India 1856-64 4a. black tied by "1" in barred diamond with a good strike of the scarce "bombay/b.p.p./paid" in red (late use of this mark), and manuscript "4", the reverse with Bombay c.d.s. in red partly overstruck by Hong Kong arrival (12.4); horizontal filing fold which runs through the adhesive, otherwise fresh and fine. Interesting contents relating to the opium trade include, "... your having taken delivery on (9) nine chests of Malwa opium into your own possession ...", "... with a shipment of (26) twenty six chests of first class Malwa opium ... forwarded by the steamer Pekin to be sailed tomorrow..." and concludes with, "However I at present authorise you to send my drug to your Shanghae friends in case of the market there being of ascending tendency to part with the drug at the highest quotation than in Hong Kong".
