A Hat and Mantle of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire A hat by EDE & RAVENSCROFT, 93 CHANCERY LANE; of purple velvet, the brim turned up in front and bearing a device of gold lace and braid; with its white hackle feather plume; together with a GBE mantle of the first pattern, by the same maker, in purple silk with cream silk lining and shoulder-knots, the silk badly rotted in places; a massive breast-star with the image of Britannia in gilt metal within a purple silk circlet inscribed FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE in gold embroidery, the rays of the star in silver embroidery; cream silk cords with tassels worked in silver and purple silk.
