ColombiaClassic Issues1859, 20 c. ultramarine, stone A, in a remarkably radiant shade, complete to very large margins on three sides, covering the double weight letter rate not exceeding 15 grams for a distance between 150 and 450 km. on entire letter from Medellín, addressed to José Manuel Restrepo, former Minister of Simón Bolívar, at Bogotá, tied by "Medellin/Franca" oval handstamp with matching framed 28 May 1860 datestamp at bottom left, both neatly and attractively struck in blue. The letter was carried following the postal "Atlántico" and "Occidental" routes. The Medellín postal administration used to indicate the value of the rate either in manuscript or with handstamp types at top right, and was the only office to apply a datestamp on dispatch; therefore, the few first-issue covers including the datestamp ought to receive more attention from collectors and deserve an enhanced valuation. Of extreme beauty, this cover can be considered as the finest example of this single franking, of which about ten covers are recorded. Scott 6. Ex Santa María and Hubbard.
