Brazil1845, 60r. black, worn impression, type II, pair with mostly large margins, cut into at left and part of upper margin, paying the single maritime rate up to 1/2 ounce on entire letter from Laguna to Rio de Janeiro, cancelled by fine strike of "Laguna" straight-line handstamp probably originating from the pre-adhesive period, with manuscript date "8/12/(1)849" on departure. Stamps applied over the edge of the upper flap, resulting in a slight crease. As far as we are aware, this is the only cover known in this issue emanating from Laguna. A very desirable and rare cancellation usage in the Brazilianclassic period. Cert. Moorhouse. RHM 6.
