Auction: SW1020 - Maritime Mail of Spanish Colonies in America
Lot: 232
PeruIncoming Mail1790 circa. Undated folded cover from Cádiz via Corunna to Lima, initially struck on dispatch with red "España" handstamp at bottom, with a similar strike of Corunna applied at top (Kouri types I & II), presumably having paid 5 reales, of which 2 corresponding to inland fees, and conveyed via Buenos Aires. This mail, instead of being embarked at Cádiz, was placed on board a ship called at Corunna which had most probably planned an earlier departure. The only cover recorded exhibiting two different "España" postmarks, this being an absolutely exceptional feature, as these were applied in two different cities in Spain. Ex Camino.
