NicaraguaOutgoing Mail1791, June 23. Entire letter from León de Nicaragua to Bath (Great Britain), bearing framed blue "Leon" and black Italic "Guatemala." handstamps, carried by Spanish Royal Mail Service entering Spain at Corunna, thence via France where "16" (sols) were crossed out, to be charged in manuscript "1/11" 1s.11p. on arrival including the ship letter rate and the carriage from Portsmouth to final destination. London datestamps on reverse. Splits along vertical fold at right and small paper loss at top right, edge splitting at left. One of the earliest letters originating from Spanish America addressed to England via France, and a very rare mail not sent to a Spanish destination and showing a postmark denoting a Spanish American postal demarcation ("Guatemala").
