CubaOutgoing Mail1820 circa. Cover front to Madrid, carried by the "Palas" ship (vertical endorsement), bearing red "Cuba" straight-line of Santiago and two-line "Islas De/Barlovento" (P.E. 5) postmarks. The postage, to be paid by the recipient, is indicated by the "335.R" marking, equivalent to 19 ounces and 12 adarmes (1805 tariff), this being one of the highest known rates from Cuba in its extensive colonial period.
