ColombiaStampless MailIndependent Republic Period1867, May 25. Printed circular sent by the Ministry of Internal and Foreign Affairs to the Colombian Consul in Quito (Ecuador), signed by the Secretary of the Ministry Carlos Martín, with contents stating the turbulent events which had recently taken place : on 29 April the elected President General Mosquera had closed the Congress and proclaimed the dictatorship; on 23 May he had been captured by the Commander of the Army General Santos Acosta, who was then designated President on that day, acting as guarantor of the Congress. Front struck with framed "De Oficio" handstamp which was crossed out and amended with "2 rs." (reales) in manuscript. To be noted in the text that "these events have saved the Republic" (not using the correct term "Nation" instead of "Republic"). A fascinating and historic document carried through the mails to a foreign destination. Photo
