Rumania1865 Prince Cuza and 1866-68 Prince Carol Issues A magnificent specialized collection mounted on 18 exhibition pages, featuring studies in a comprehensive array of mint and used items including part sheets, multiples, retouchs, plate varieties and mixed types arrangements in plates with accompanying explanatory diagrams. Numerous significant rare items are included: 1865 20pa. stone I in block of four with over 4mm vertical distance between clichés, 20 pa. on lilac-blue in very rare marginal block of eight, 20 pa. in corner block of eight with four blank spaces, etc; 1866 2pa. on thick paper (stone A) in corner block of fourteen with the four blank spaces left to obtain the 200 units in the sheet, 2pa. stone C on thin paper in block of eight showing the defective impression at top of pos. 101 & 102, 5pa. on thick paper with the two examples of the prominent flaw consisting in a large black spot covering the "5" at lower right, 20pa. on thick red-purple paper in the extraordinary irregular block of four from the lower right of the sheet which was the key to identify the stone A; 1862 2b. (arrangement of 100) in blocks of four and fifteen with retouch, 2b. in used block of six with position 91 ("Fosta" instead of "Posta"), 4b. in upper-left corner block of nine with five blank spaces coming from the partly known stone A2, the most spectacular and rarest retouch of Rumanian philately is represented with two used examples: featuring the outline of the lower right spandrel and the denomination tablet at right made up by dots instead of lines (one pair was included in the Ferrary collection), very scarce used blocks of four and six of the 15b. (such high frankings were very rarely applied), 3b. in block of ten with two blank spaces and block of 32, etc. This magnificent and rare assembly, gathered after a long period of search and research, constitutes an exceptional display for a highly advanced collection on this classic period.
