Latin AmericaMexico1914, March 3. 5c. Federal envelope to Sinaloa, readdressed to Torreón. The battle for Torreón began a couple of weeks after this cover was sent, with mail deliveries probably halted by the 25 March, if not earlier; Sinaloa had been in the hands of the Constitutionalists since 5.10.1913, so it was closed to Federal deliveries, therefore with "Clausurada la Oficina de destino" and for its being sent to Mexico City where authorities at the Departamento de Regazos searched the address of the sender which they wrote in red; by that time Torreón had been taken by Villa, and so the second "clausurada" handstamp was applied. Backstamp "Mazatlán" implies transport by ship since this port was closed to approach by land. Scarce and very interesting.
